Styles include tufted carpet, this is probable the most commonly seen type of carpet in the UK, they have their pile injected onto a backing material which is stuck to a layer of hessian weave to offer stability. Knotted carpets are often more expensive but can be very lush, hand knotting is most prevalent in Kashmir or oriental rugs.
Needlefelt carpets are a relatively new technology, needles are made by joining individual synthetic fibres using needles to create a durable floor covering. Another style, popular in Arabia, India and Pakistan is woven, it is made in a similar way to woven fabric and due to its slow manufacturing process is usually quite expensive.
